Surfing women lifestyle

They call Lisa Andersen, Elise Garrigue and Mary Osborne. Their names do you say may be nothing and yet they are the muses of surfing and there are many others! Beat of freedom and adventure, they combine in this sport, travel around the world and family life. To live a “Endless Summer” somehow.

In recent years, these women both sports, sexy and daring gave their pedigree in women’s surfing. Can not start with Lisa Andersen, because it is a pioneer of inspirational women’s surfing as we know. Lisa was born in 1969, a veteran of the sport that requires extraordinary physical abilities. She began surfing at the age of 13 years in the early 80s, a time when surfing was still a female minor phenomenon. Aged just 16, she asserts her independence and is dedicated to amateur competitions. Immediately, she collects trophies and exploded while on its way and turned professional three years later. In 1993, she gave birth to her first child. A month later, she climbs in the final at a championship in Japan. On the shore, the girls holding their breath, Lisa Andersen became the model for a generation. Read the rest of this entry »

The story of Rell Sunn

How I had to write about Rell Sunn, and that is, the story of her life, is like a tale full of emotion but with a slightly bitter end. I would say, part of those people who become myths and help you to dream, to love, to fight, and respect. A fairy story but very real: Kapolioka’ehukai Rell Sunn (1950-1998, Oahu, Hawaii)

The Women and The Waves [video]

“The Women and The Waves” is a surf documentary video that explores the lives of women surfers across different decades. Women who one day decided to paddle towards a world dominated by men and find a place for them. Women who made and make surfing more than a sport, a passion.

This documentary shows the evolution of women’s surfing and the experiences of the characters from the decade of the 60s until today. It is amazing to see how concepts have changed as “surfing as a woman” from the 60s until now. A phrase that in those years could be completely offensive, has become something that women today are completely proudly: “How can I surf if what I am?

Yes, the scenario has changed and women we have a place in the world of surfing. The pioneers of the 60s and 70s opened their eyes to this industry, which was gradually pouring money into the development of women’s surfing. We have gone from surfers who refused to give a penny in the championships, surfers who make promotional trips with all amenities, and also pay them for it.

Certainly, women like Linda or Lisa Benson mincing have marked milestones in the history of surfing. I recommend that you saw this documentary. For now I leave you with the Trayles. You can buy the DVD or find out more about “The Women and The Waves” in: www.thewomenandthewaves.com .

Carissa Moore young talented surfer

The Hawaiian Carissa Moore , who is only 16 years old, has managed to appear on the cover of Surfer magazine . Yes, yes ” has to appear ” and I say this because being a cover of Surfer magazine is not easy . In the history of the magazine only three women have come to appear on the cover. The last was Lisa Andersen in 1996. This means that in more than a decade, no woman has been on the cover of this magazine ! (Are those things that drive me crazy .) Read the rest of this entry »
